You can stream a lot of comedy free and legally. Tubi and Pluto TV carry stand-up specials and 24/7 comedy channels. The Roku Channel and Plex stream sitcoms and comedy films, and Samsung and LG TVs have comedy channels built in. YouTube hosts thousands of full stand-up sets that comedians post themselves. All of it is ad-supported, and none of it needs a credit card. The genre's biggest names still live behind paid services, but the free shelf is far deeper than most people think.

This guide covers where the free comedy is, what to expect from the ad-supported experience, and where creator-run comedy channels fit in.

Where can you stream comedy for free?

The legitimate free services below all carry comedy. Libraries rotate monthly, so search each one rather than assuming a specific special is there.

YouTube changed the stand-up economy. Many working comedians now release full specials there free, keeping the ad revenue and building their tour audience directly. Some of the most-watched specials of recent years were free uploads, not paid exclusives. If you follow a specific comedian, check their channel before checking any service.

The scale of free viewing overall is easy to underestimate. Tubi reports more than 100 million monthly active users. Pluto TV, The Roku Channel, and Tubi together took 5.7% of all US TV viewing in May 2025, per Nielsen. The numbers live in our free TV statistics hub.

What does free comedy streaming actually get you?

Free means ads. The trade is straightforward: commercial breaks instead of a subscription, at a lighter load than cable. Free streaming channels typically run 4 to 8 minutes of ads per hour against cable's 12 to 16. Two-thirds of US viewers tell Hub Entertainment Research they would rather save money than avoid ads. Comedy is an easy place to make that trade.

Set expectations honestly:

  • The A-list exclusives stay paid. The specials a big streamer paid millions for will not appear on free services during that deal. Older specials from the same comedians often do.
  • No sign-up required on several services. Pluto TV and Tubi play without an account. Vidiyo plays in the browser with no registration.
  • Ad breaks can land mid-bit. Live comedy channels insert breaks on a schedule, which occasionally clips a punchline. On-demand apps place breaks more cleanly.
  • Rotation works in your favor. Comedy libraries refresh constantly, so the shelf you see today is not the shelf you will see in three months.

Why do comedy channels work so well on free live TV?

Comedy is built for the always-on channel format. Sitcom episodes are self-contained, stand-up works in any order, and sketch is modular by nature. That is why free TV services run so many 24/7 comedy channels. Sitcom marathons, all-day stand-up, fail compilations, sketch blocks, and single-series channels looping one beloved show.

The lean-back format solves comedy's real problem, which is choosing. Scrolling a menu for twenty minutes to pick a 22-minute episode is a bad ratio. A live comedy channel removes the decision entirely. You tune in, something funny is already playing, and the schedule keeps rolling. Our guide to watching free live TV online explains how these channels and their program guides work across services.

This whole free, ad-supported channel ecosystem has an industry name, covered in what FAST TV is. Comedy is one of its most-programmed genres for a simple reason: it repeats well.

Creator comedy on Vidiyo

Vidiyo comes at comedy from the creator side. It does not license studio sitcoms or big-name specials, and we will not pretend it does. Instead, independent comedians and comedy creators run their own 24/7 channels: sketch blocks, stand-up from working comics, podcast-style shows, and whatever formats the creators invent.

What that means for a viewer:

  • Real linear channels, real schedules. Creators program their channels like small TV stations. Browse what is airing in the program guide.
  • Free in your browser. Open the channel browser and press play. No account and no credit card.
  • Live comedy with a crowd. Vidiyo supports live streams with real-time chat and reactions, so live sets and premieres have an audience in the room.
  • Apps on your TV. Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, iOS, and Android alongside the browser.

The honest pitch: the big free services have the licensed catalogs, and Vidiyo has the comics the catalogs have not signed yet.
